Annual Dessert Competition in Troy Raises Money for Local Food Bank

The Troy-based PHUN (People Helping the Underprivileged and Needy) volunteer team along with the local members of the Executive Staff hosted the annual Dessert Competition and Fundraiser event at Troy Headquarters on February 12, 2015. More than 30 desserts were submitted into the competition and the event raised $495. The funds were donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank, a nonprofit organization with a mission to fight hunger in southeastern Michigan by providing millions of pounds of donated and purchased food to people in need.

Dessert submissions were broken up into six categories and one submission received the honor of best presentation. Executive Staff members in Troy voted on the desserts to determine the winners in each category.
Funds were raised through the sale of forks. Employees had the choice of buying gold forks for $5 or silver forks for $3. Those who purchased gold forks had the opportunity to enter the lunch room first to taste the desserts. Those who purchased silver forks entered the lunch room second to taste the desserts. Not only did the event raise money for charity but it was also a great team bonding opportunity for employees in Troy.
